Ok I was doing a water change today on my 125G tank, I got distracted and the **** thing started to overflow, I took care of it like a bat out of hell, anyway I got all the water up and all was cool or so I thought. Watching a movie with the Mrs tonight and we heard a crack, Im almost positive It came from the tank. So I went over and looked it over, everything looks dry still, no leakage, checked the supports all look good, then I noticed the crack that runs between the actual glass of the tank and the wooden stand (Picture 1) and I dont know how much but I KNOW water got in there when it was overflowing. Obviously there is no way to get it out without evaporation or taking the whole tank down which I DONT want to do if I dont have to. ANyway I got to looking and I see this (picture 2), 2 small damp spots on the boards under the tank, not so damp that they are dripping but damp enough I can feel it, and it feels somwhat warped too. Again all the support beams are in good shape but this is still very concerning to me. Is this a disaster waiting to happen, will it dry out and be ok since its not a support beam, or do I have to take the whole thing apart to see the damage???

If I were you, I'd check it out depending on how sturdy the stand is. Also, mold can considerably weaken wood.

When you say check it out, do you mean take the whole thing down?

Yeah, I know that would be a pain. If you don't trust the stand 100%, I'd do it. You might spend a day re-scaping the tank, but it's worth it, considering the cost of a tank that might fall and crack/explode.

:iagree: pain in the butt, but it has to be done.

I wouldnt worry too much about it.
This is just my OPINION. But if it were me, i would put some fans on it and maybe a heat lamp and it should be fine.

Okay, if the stand is relatively new (less then 3yrs old) start by opening the doors underneath and directing a fan at it. Use the "high" setting.

Check to see if there are cracks, fractures, crazzing in the glue that hold the wood together. This is what you may have heard crack, not to big a deal. Some stands are built with glue and pneumatic staples. All you need to do is eventually bolster the stand with a few well-placed screws, countersink and fill for aesthetics.

Let the stand dry overnight with the fan running.
At any point if you think you are having an emergency......you probably are and should act accordingly. Drain the tank enought to move somewhere safe overnight and fix the whole thing tommorrow.

One more thing, if you feel lucky, you could try to take a small drill bit and, using your hand/fingers, make a small hole at the "damp spot" to let the water drain. If the water continues to drain more then say a cup or so....go with plan B. Drain the water move the fish ASAP.

Hopes this was helpful.

I'm not touching this one with a ten foot hose.

Ok so it sounds like the bottom of the tank is or maybe cracked. Right?
In that case try to move the substraight around and find the crack that way to asses the damage. better then taking the whole tank down.

If it is just the stand being wet and you think it won't hold try to just dry it out and get some 2x4s and add more support underneth
