so i was feeding my fish, and one of my pBass got confused and struck at my thermometer and successfully broke the tip.

I immediately took the broken thermometer out of the tank but cannot find the glass tip that broke off.. bass may have eaten it... i have no idea.

regardless, some of the red stuff inside the thermometer (either alcohol or mercury) leaked out and although I cannot see it in the tank, I CAN SMELL IT.

so obviously it's in my water....

is this going to kill my fish?

what should I do???

Keep an eye on the fish you think ate the glass. As far as what leaked in the tank from the thermometer I don't know what it is but to be safe take the fish out as soon as possible

found the glass, removed from tank.. cant guarantee I got it all, but i got the big big chunks.

did some speed research and found that red in thermometers in alcohol, not mercury (as mercury is silver and not commonly sold unless for scientific purposes)

I have no where else to put the fish, this is my only tank...

i will do a giant water change starting now

any more input would be appreciated please!

How big are your fish? Do you have any kind of giant cooler to put them in temporarily?

You're probably fine. Most of the more recent stuff is designed to be fish safe if broken. That doesn't mean you should feed it to them, but if you do a 75% now and a 75% in the morning, you should be just fine.

Just do a water changed as advised earlier. It will dilute the alcohol. How big is the tank and the bass? I wouldn't worry to much about it. A drop or two of alcohol in the tank wont kill any thing.

Be really care for ph swings and temputure swings as well. Pbass can and will go into shock if ether or shifts dramatically.

water changes and bump the heat water boils at 212f alcohol boils at 168.7f. There for it will evaporate first. I would also take off or keep open the glass lid while you are still around. (this is what i would do)
