Emergency!!! Paralyzed jack dempsey

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i had something similar happen.. only not quite that quickly. my neighbor sprayed inseciticide outside my bedroom window..

the next morning i didn't like the way the water looked.. couldn't put my finger on it.. but it seemed wrong. so i did a big water change. fast forward a few more hours.. and my little TGT started swimming in circles. i don't know if she couldn't or wouldn't stop.. or mayb she was trying to figure out how to straighten out?

i did a few more water changes.. unfortunately my RO/DI system only does 100 gallons per day with brand new filters.. average is 80ish gallons and we were filling up the bottles as fast as we could and emptying them as soon as all 8 were full.

but it didn't help, she faded out, lost all her color and gradually slowed down and stopped.. took a few days. stayed in the same curled position.. didn't even uncurl when i took her out of the tank.

wasn't till after she died that i connected the dots though.. i realized that i had woken up to the smell of insecticide just before she started acting funny. and that was when the strange bubbles were in the tank..

im sorry to say but he's done for. cause of death could be anything but if the last time you did a water change you did it without aging the water then it sends the ph and nitrite levels on a DELAYED roller coaster. and usually if the fish hasn't eaten a couple days before the water change it usually affects them the most. Don't quote me on any of this but through many years experience with fish loss and working at a hatchery this is my conclusion.

uhh, its a jack dempsey? you made no mention of when you got him, what the parameters were/are, what else is housed with it...kind of a lot of variables.
