Ok I know some of you guys on here have rubbermaid tanks setup on a permanent basis for feeders and such.

I need to clear out my 3ft tank and house the fish somewhere temporarily for a few weeks...

I've picked up a rubbermaid container, similar size to the actual tank and it has a matching lid etc.

Am I right in thinking that if I fill the rubbermaid with water from my tank where the water parameters are fine, and add my filter without washing (not removing bb etc) along with adding my heater.... Will this rubbermaid be instantly ready to house my fish temporarily?

Is there anything I need to watch out for/be aware of that I haven't mentioned?

Thanks...

The fish are 2x plec's around 4", 8x sterbai's less then 2" and a few swordtails who are 3" or less, nothing vicious. The plec's are a bit predatory.... but I'm planning to put their caves in there too..

So would it only be ok for a week? I'm looking for a solution that will keep them healthy and well for a few weeks maybe up to a month even..?

Should be fine, depending on the size of the tank u had and a rubbermaid its alot smaller so watch out for current make sure its not too strong for the little guys or else theyll get sucked up

It's all good. I always miss things and I do read the whole posts...lol :screwy:

yes it will work fine for a couple of weeks. good luck with this.

yea ive done it several times. the only thing you are forgetting is to wash the tub first. Who knows where its been or what may have collected in it at one point (even if its new...I highly dought they produce and store them in a completely clean and sterile environment.) All you really need to do is wash it out with some water and maybe let it sit with water in it for a day to try to dissolve any water soluble contaminants.

after you do this and everything you listed you could keep your fish in there for eternity as long as they dont outgrow it
