i know you asked for help.. but im just suggesting that maybe a rtc isn't the right fish for you. if your landlord won't even let you have a tank, what are you going to do when it grows to be 3 ft?
Sounds to me like you dont even know the basics of fishkeeping and youve got a fish that unless it dies, will grow to feet rather than inches or didnt you believe that they can grow that big?
How big is he and how long have you had him and how is he now?
he has him in a 75 and the fish is large enough to be confident enough to be petted. with a set up like that and a fish that size i would be doing daily or bi daily w/c's anyway even with bb built up, just to keep nitrates down.
you have been getting great information, dont second guess it. put the fish in, buy the stability and do daily w/c's for the rest of the time you have him in a 75, and dear god get a bigger tank.
Yeah, I have a 300 gallon in the other room. Just keeping him in the 75 till we move. Thanks for your concern. But anyways... Carlos is doing great. He is swimming frequently and is back to his old self. I do have an amonia spike as predicted, and am doing daily water changes. The PH is up as well.
I gotta baaaaaaad feelin about this!
If you have the 300 gallon why wouldnt you put him in it? It takes up the same amount of room empty as it does full. Youll need fewer water changes if hes in a 300gallon. Use the 75 for a sump. How big is carlos? How big was that cooler?
As previously stated, im moving. The 300 is almost impossible to move empty, let alone full. Thanks for your interest. I'm really not asking for advice on where to keep my fish.
I hope you realise that the 300 wont be big enough for carlos for life, and we were not saying fill the tank up and move it with water in,thats just stupid but as said before it takes no more room full than empty.
Im very worried for carlos, and again how big is he and how long have you had him?
As previously stated, im moving. The 300 is almost impossible to move empty, let alone full. Thanks for your interest. I'm really not asking for advice on where to keep my fish.
What he meant was, since your 75 is not cycled anyway, fill up the 300 and put the fish in it to allow the extra water to keep the amount of toxic ammonia diluted. When you are ready to move, drain the tank
