Emotional support dog

I think a few incidences of animals being found dead in their cages in the cargo hold might have prompted some of the airlines to ease up on that restriction.
Hello; I get the point. Since airlines are a for profit business the question occurs to me about what will cost them more. A dead pet or a mauled passenger or crew? Pets are still property under law I think so my initial guess is the dead pet costs less.
I have not flown since sometime in the early 1970's and never commercial so with luck will never have to face some animal in a confined space where I am to be without even a pocket knife.

I live close to a small college, Lincoln Memorial University. I can see part of the campus from my back yard. So far within the homes near me three are being rented to college students. Nearly all bring a dog or few with them to college. Does not make sense to me when I recall my college days. One house close to me has had a regular turnover the last few years and so far the damage to the house has cost them extra when they leave and they pay more rent per month up front.
Back when I was going to school I had no time to fool with a dog. Too busy with study or working part time jobs.

I believe there are some mental handicaps where support dogs can play a role...

For example, there are some people who have a disability where they cant really control their muscle reflexes and end up constantly hitting themselves during a fit...

So there are dogs trained to sense when these fits are about to happen and physically place their body really close to the owners body, preventing them from hitting themselves till they calm down...

But for those that claim they need an emotional support pet just because (insert stupid reason) is really bad and doing a dis-service to true service dogs and the owners that need them...

Hello; Of this I do not doubt. My take the problem is these legit service dog needs are being pushed aside because folks see a way to game the system and have an untrained or poorly trained pet along.

Example: I was executor for my mothers estate. After her death my siblings asked for her handicap parking permit. Both were healthy at the time. I had already tossed it but you get the point I guess.
