Once you have esablished the biowheels, add the filter cartridges and rinse them weekly with tap water. this will extend the life of the cartridge.
Umm wont that kill the bb in the cartrige? Why not rinse in tankwater?

As for my peguin 350's I seperated the blue floss from the plastic, dumped out all the carbon and put them in the back slot then I put 2 bags of ac70 biomax in front of each. On the other 350 I just fill the resivior with biomax. If you don't want to buy biomax use a few of those plastic bio balls. Thats what I filled my fx5 with.

cheers

do you get the pouch looking blue floss or just a roll of the stuff.......or the loose stuff???........cartridges do get expensive ....so i might have to start trying this!!!:) ..pls elaborate as to how you get the cartridge to fit after being wraped as they are already tight fitting???

For the filter padding I use what's in the link below. I cut the pad to about an 3/4 inch overlap on each side, wrap the pad around the old frame and slide it into the slot. It is easier to do if ya have good access to your filter, but after doing a couple times ya get a feel for it.

Yes it will but if ya go through the steps I posted, the colony of bacteria will be growing on the bio wheels where it is meant to trive. Why have BB growing on the cartidge that will be removed eventually?

sorry I gave you the wrong link to the super cardridge, lol this is the one I was looking at and yes it does fit the emp. 400 What do you guys think? will it work?

Yes I am sure the supercartridge would work fine. It is designed similar to that in millinum filters which work great. The only difference is the millinum filter has a venturi that mixes air in with the water to provide the BB with oxygen too. To me this is a waste of money if your are buying for something that has bio wheeels.
