my emp 400 has very little water coming out. if i point the spray bars back into the filter area instead of the bio wheels absolutely no water comes out, no matter where the little grey pull tab is. anyone had this problem?

Yes, I had the same problem, that's why I for one hate those filters with a passion, I personally think they are crap. I'll suggest to you what I did, got an AquaClear lol

I took that filter apart like 3 times, reassembled and still had issues with it...

Im assuming you looked at the intake tubing for blockage and made sure there was not anything wrapped around the impeller etc? For me this fixes 99% of HOB problems I haven't worked on an emperor however.

EXACTLY AND GIVE IT A GOOD CLEANING AND RINSING.(INCLUDING THE IMPELLER). ALSO CLEAN OUT THE TBING FOR DEPOSITS. I LOVE MY EMPEROR ITS A WORK HORSE.

I agree with getting an Aqua Clear..10+ years of service and still going strong, all ive replaced so far was the foam block after 9 years... it started disintegrating. Best 2$ I ever spent on filter media.

I'm currently running 3 400's and a 280, 4 400's if you include my grandfather's, one on a saltwater tank. Take the filter off and completely take it apart and give it a good cleaning. The intake can get clogged if you're load is really high on it. Had this happen once, after I cleaned out the square intake, ran fine.

As with all filters, cleaning and maintaining is key to success. I've never had problems with anything mechanical on the 5 that I work with and have been running for 5 years.:D

I take apart all my HOB's once every other month and clean the magnets and impellers and have never had one die (Knocks on wood)

I'll knock too, lol. I just love these filters though. I can't say enough good about them and I'll be buying another one in about a week or so.:headbang2
