emp 400 vs. ac110

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have only ever used AC's, so I can't compare them, but I've never had problems with the AC's i have.

I love em both!!! I use' em both!! I do however like cleaning the AC110 more :D

IMO ac's are way better for mech. But if you'll do a search on here, you'll see this thread about 100 times and it usually comes down to everyone loves emperors for bio and ac's for mech. Now with my ac's I use 2 sponges and with my emperor I put matrix in the cartridges, that may have something to do with it....on my 55 I use on of each, and on my 46 I use an ac110 and an ac70 right now. I've never really had a problem with either, but I have a friend that had some issues with her emperor. Also, for the gph compared to media space, ac wins hands down, so if you ran it with the rings or matrix instead of extra sponges it may be just as good for bio as an emperor, not sure about that.

ac's give you more options as media goes are easier to clean... and i believe over all last longer than penguins.... im sold on the media options... i got 1 on my turtle tank with an ammonia bag i got 1 on my breeder solely for bio to back up my can filter... i got 2 on my guppy breeder 1 with charcoal and 1 with a double sponge nitrate set up they are more versatile and imo the bio wheels are a lot of hype i cant see a big wheel exposed out in the open has anything to do with bb... thats just me the pourus rocks sound good tried and true even if bio wheels were the best the media options are more important to me ill spend an extra 20 bucks and get a sponge filter if it came down to it

AQUA CLEAR 110 IS THE BEST THING EVER

i've used both, and prefer the ACs.

I second that!...both are great in it own way. But i prefer AC's

I have both. I like the fact that my AC doesn't have filter pads that seem to clog after a week and a half like the Emp. The Emp does keep the water in my 75g crystal clear though. Bottom line, both are fine filters, the Emperor is just a little more maintanenece.
