The emp 400 has a solid black biowheel cover u can't see anything the emp 350 has a clear blue cover and i can see the biowheel turn all day i hope that this will get my point across.lol:grinno:

bump

skinless, they have changed in the past couple of months, but I don't what exactly just got changed.

The Emperors have a spray bar that's goes over the biowhell which helps it turn all the time. The Penguins have a biowheel, but no spray bar. I've has Penguins and the biowheel will eventually stop spinning after awhile.

EMPEROR 400 CHANGES:.........for the better I think...

The only changes besides a more snazzy box is all black top (no peep hole to see biowheels) and now there is no adjustable flow......which on the older emps was the grey knob on the top of the filter which you could move up and down to control flow at feedings etc...........I own one of each and can honestly say that I have had no problems whatsoever with the new system w/o the flow knob........worst case if i have to shut the filter down for a minuite of so i just unplug it........the PLUS side to this more simplistic design is exactly that LESS moving parts.......GO EMP!!!:D;)

If you clean the intake tube and the prefilter, they will spin at full speed again. Sometimes, when the wheel is spinning, the plastic will rub a little bit. If you wipe it off with your fingers, then it is like new again. Keep the Biowheels clean and they are fine.

My emp 400 is less than a year old and has no window to see the biowheel they must have made a model change in the last 2 years thats caused some confusion :nilly: but it's still a good filter but not as good as the ac 500 imo.:D

Very recently they changed them as stated above. Old ones have window, new ones do not.
