Here's whatcha do. I've done this before with mine so I know for a fact that it works. Call Marineland (800.322.126 7:30am-5:30pm (Eastern Time). Monday-Friday) and tell them you bought you recently bought your filter and it's noisy. They will send you a new impellor for free.

The impellers on these filters don't handle fine sand well either... so make sure you shut them off durring partial water changes and clean them thoroughly taking especially good care of the impeller and motor
