Before plugging in any Hob make sure you completely disconnect it and put it back together including the impeller to make sure all the parts are there and not damaged or defective. Other then the power source difference... Once all the paper ect has been removed filling up the back chamber with water is a must! Or you will over heat and seize the impeller easily. Btw I haven' t owned a self priming hob or even seen one ever.

Aqueon and Tetra both make self-priming HOB filters, the impeller motor is in the tank so it doesn't need to prime aside from having enough water in the tank.
Great...! Not ONE filter out of the 4 I got shipped, works. Not a single one turns on.... I tried everything. The manufacturer said "oh electricity converters will not work on the filters" (which I honestly find load of crap, people are running bloody televisions with converters, but a simple filter won't run?!)
Anyhow, I am going to send em back for a refund. I have purchased a FLUVAL 405 for my 60 gallon, cycling has started. Can't wait to put my two oscars in there!

No clue why they wouldn't work, odd. Glad you found a filter that works though, good luck with the new fish.
