Emperor 400 vs. AC 110?

really depends on what type filtration you are looking for. The AC110 are far supieor in mechanical filtration, I have two on my 180g that I rinse the sponges weekly, water is very clear.

Emp 400s are far superior in biological filtration. I ran my 85g discus tank with just 1 emp 400 with no media, just biowheels it had pristine water params.

For your 55g I would recommend the Emp400 they are better suited for the smaller tank.

EMP's rock......I have 2......I fill the 2 grey cartridges with eheim substrat pro and the other 2 slots are the pad / carbon combo... and water looks great all the time........

Depends on your personal preferance.

I would do neither.
I'd go for the Penguin 350B (same exact thing as the emporer, made by the same people, just rated for like 5gal less, and uses different/cheaper pads)
or go canister...

I have had both in the past. I prefer the emp 400's b/c the bio-wheels and media chambers offer more biological filtration.

Emperor over AC any day. Had them on my tanks for years trouble free.
