Awesome guys, thanks for the input, I'm definitetly getting the ceramic rings. I've been rinsing my cartridges for 4 months now, lol. It's still good, but are you supposed to switch the cartridges every month or is that just nonsense?

nonsense. the only reason to keep replacing the cartridges would be if you're really interested in keeping fresh carbon in them; and to keep giving your money to the manufacturer.

Thanks, I just learned something new today. I will save way more money now. A 4 pack is 17.00!!!!! Damn, and I run 2 emp 280's and an emp 400. Now I know not to replace the cartridges anymore. If you throw the old ones away and get new ones, doesn't that kill all the beneficial bacteria that was on the old cartridge?

I just got a marineland 350. One side I use two cartridges, and the other side I filled with ceramic rings and a top layer of sponge pad.

It seems like the water flow flows from top into the chamber, so I am not sure if all the ceramic rings are receiving the water flow/exchange.

p.s. first I got the tetratec 300 it was such a piece of crap that I had to replace it with marineland 350.
:WHOA: you said magnum 350 but did you mean emp 400? magnums are cannisters w/o cartridges right? oops never mind i see the deluxe/pro comes with it.

No I said marineland 350, not magnum 350. It looks like this,

I guess I should've said penguin 350.
