My guys are growing up fast now. The biggest has just hit 7".
The growth rate is very fast!!!
Of the 3 Juvi I have, 2 are the "blue" spec, and the other looks totally different in color (hopefully it will grow the color yours have). This one also seems to be the boss of the tank, and though only five bands he is allready starting to show signs of flowering. The 2 blue specs are both six band, but the markings are less clear.
Any idea of how to sex them? The biggest of mine (the standard five band) occasionally shows a little aggression towards only one of the blue specs. This leads me to believe they may be the same sex?
Also, What size tank you have youes in?
Mine are about to go into a 220cm x 75cm x 75cm to which I will be soon adding a Black Arowana.
I am from Malaysia. Recently I bought 15 of the Emperor snakehead from a local fish shop. Size about 4-5 inches.
Please help me to confirm if these are Marulioides or Marulius? Because, lot of local fish shop here import the Marulius from India and sell as Marulioides with much higher price. It is not easy to find true Marulioides here nowaday.
Here is a pic of my Marulius (at juvi stage) for you to compare:
Note how the Marulius has black kind of spots/blotches along the body whereas the Marulioides has vertical bars.
Also, the Marulius tail "eye" is a lot brighter orange than the Marulioides. And finally, Marulius have a vertical black line going through the center of the eyes.
There are also scientific ways to check (lateral line, scales etc)
But I can tell you 100% yours are Marulioides!
Enjoy!
Thanks for the confirmation. I also did anal fin count and found the number to be 30-31. Which confirm to be Emperor.
I am now training these fishes to eat pellet. This pellet food is specially made for Marble goby with ~70% protein. It should be ok for Emperor snakehead I hope.
My fishes are eating pellet nowaday. It is 45% protein type (Aquexel from Cargill). I am just thinking if 45% protein is good enough. Or should I get pellet with higher % of protein? Cause if we feed the fish with live fish/prawn/insect, the % of protein should be higher right?
