emperor scorpion help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
All that already has been said is completly valid (except for the guttloading part, feed stuff like carrots and green beans to your crickets before using and dont ad nothing else) but here is the thing, Ive looked at your scorpion and I beleave its not a Pandinus, its a Heterometrus that is a asian forest scorpion and its poison even if not letal to humans its much stronger then emperors scorps venom, so DONT HANDLE HIM, untill you have a complete certain about what it is, the sting causes fever, intense pain, and a few other very unconfortable simptons.

I looked at the picture and I think it is a Heterometrus as well. Both toxicity are about the same and they are venomous not poisonous. They are likely to use their stinger then the emperor. Either way the care is the same. I have a 10 gallon for a pair and I think that the 20 gallon tank would be much better since they are communal. While most tarantulas don't require extra heat and are fine with room temps these scorpions do need heat since they should be around 85 degrees. At lower temps they will be far less active. You can use a heat pad but like Berber King said, put it on the side of the tank so if they burrow they won't burn. We have our set up in a terrarium with live plant and a sunken in dish for water and two hides on either side of the tank. They do require very humid set up. We achieved this by having a false bottom. We have an under gravel filter, we placed the plants in pots directly on the under gravel filter, then gravel and on top coco fiber. We placed flat rocks around the base of the plants to keep the scorpions from digging up the plants. When we see the water level go down we add water through the uplift tube in the corner. We feed once a week and you don't need to dust the crickets. The attached pics are our setup, when we first set it up, since then the plants have filled in nicely. If you do live plants look for ones that require high humidity and low light. I hope this helps. www.arachnoboards.com Is the place for scorpion or tarantula questions. Like this forum it is very active and informative.
