I fell in love with this big guy at the LFS today, he's in way too small a tank at the LFS.

In googling the information on this species it specifies minimum tank size 150 g? Seems small to me? Any one on this forum have any first hand knowledge advice on keeping this specimen? In my area I can find deals on 125-180 size tanks used.

Will this size tank be sufficient for a single specimen tank for a year maybe 2? Current size of fish is roughly 20"

I've been reading and most sites have said max size of 30", which in my opinion is WAY TOO BIG for a 180 gallon tank. If your max size of 45inches is correct, forget about it. This fish will need at least a 8' x 30" footprint in my opinion. Of course the 180 will work short term.

Get him an above ground pool. Cheaper than a tank.

Right now he's in a 30 at the LFS....Thanks for the info if I can get a year with him in a 180, then it's upgrade time...it's almost like buying a SW pacu in regards to size..Like "sereafino" mentioned they are meant for commercial displays or large ponds/pools..

hmm i think a round tank or pool/pond if best for these...unless you got a massive rectangular tank...go check Target or look into those Rubbermaid tanks...and get a viewing port built into the plastic walls and then just melt it together and bond them both with silicone (glass/acrylic with plastic walls)

What kind of tub are you talking about I've never seen a rubbermaid round container of any kind Where or how do you get one of these babys I'd love a couple I would really appreciate any info more that you could give PIC's blue prints step by step or links anything would be great I'll buy 5 This sounds like a great idea I was going to get some pools that are going on sale in a week but forget that, the bin and veiwing window sounds great I have like 5 or 6 fish that would love round homes!!! Thank's

sorry mr pleco I dont have one of these yet but hear there easy to keep if provided swimming space rounds the way to go but your tank sounds better than what he's in now meaty low fat food shrimp scallops octo squid lean fish i'd say look at about 200 gals at least but captive size at 35 in max hope this is at extra info for u
