If Trump had made this claim, would it be okay? :ROFL lol

Part of me thinks the big issue is the type of hats the perps are said to have been wearing. I wonder if this would have been the national scandal of the week if were wearing cubs hats.

Exactly what agenda am I pushing?

You sought to diminish the importance of the crime against Mr. Smollett because he wasn't physically injured worse than he was. In an attempted (but unsuccessful) murder, someone can be unharmed and still be the victim of a crime. Should we mock them for being shaken and wanting something done about it?

Pal your making this too easy for me.

In an unsuccessful murder or attempted murder there doesnt have to be injuries. The intent or involvement of deadly weapons could lead to attempted murder and result in no injuries. I try and poison you....you dont drink it... prove that i willfully added the poison to your drink..... im going to jail yet no one was hurt.

At the worst this guy got smacked. Yeah i say big deal or hes lying.

Anyone hear of this?

Great example.... she was clearly beaten.

what does this have to do with Mr. Smollett... other than, of course, trying to minimize the gravity of his attack?
Hello; The point is all this other stuff is a side issue as to the truth or falsehood of Mr. Smollett's story. It is either true or false. If true then you get to crow about it. If false he has inflamed our society for some personal agenda. You hope it is true for reasons of your own. Others are suspicious and yes may have there own reasons. Tit for tat.

Reality is that most guns used in Chicago come from places with lax gun laws like Indiana: "Here’s how it works: Chicago requires a Firearm Owner Identification card, background check, three-day waiting period, and documentation for all firearm sales. But Indiana doesn’t require any of this for purchases between two private individuals — including those at gun shows and those who meet through the internet

from Chicago can drive across the border — to Indiana or to other places with lax gun laws — and buy a gun without any of the big legal hurdles he would face at home.

found that 74 percent of guns used in crimes in New York between 2010 and 2015 came from states with lax gun laws. (The gun trafficking chain from Southern states with weak gun laws to New York is so well-known it even has a name: “the Iron Pipeline.”)

Mexico, which has strict gun laws, can be traced back to the US, which has

Im not touching the rest of that nonsense.... we are on to the attempts made around here to get threads locked.
hello: I am not going to touch it either.

Take a step back and think about what you've written here:

You're trying to frame the veracity of allegations of hate crime against someone as a victory or defeat for some supposed agenda. Just let that sink in.

In a less hateful world there wouldn't be people targeting Mr. Smollett or people like him for attack or worse. That there are more of these kinds of attacks (and murders) in recent years - and FBI data and other credible sources make this clear - isn't a victory for anyone (other than, I guess, the twisted people who think attacks on LGBTQ and minorities are a good thing).

That's what is so toxic and unfortunate about the efforts to try to depict Mr. Smollett - without evidence - as a liar or someone who is overreacting is that this is part of an agenda - concerted or otherwise - to deny reality. It gives the signal that mocking or insulting people who are being targeted because of who they are is OK.

The standard you walk past, is the standard you accept.

And when I see bullying or bigotry or just people being a-holes, it needs to be called out. Whether you accept that or not, it's what I perceived and I called it out.

I'm no longer going to respond to this thread. And probably going to log off of MFK altogether.

Never knew of him until this story broke out. No hate involved. Too many holes to the story involved. I also didn't know that local g*y couple that was beat up, but their story sounds believable.

Where in this thread has anyone done that? We are saying we don't believe his story. There is no bullying, bigotry or being a-holes involved.

It's a shame if you can't handle the Lounge...just stay out of it. There is plenty more of this forum to browse/post in.

Hello; I guess Dog is gone so this is a general response for a bit of clarification. If we take Dog's words highlighted in bold above and apply them to pretty much any other point of view, to me it seems the sentiment should apply equally to those he cries out against.
When I see …………………….. it needs to be called out, it's what I perceived and I called it out. That is what the folks he disagrees with have been doing, is it not?

Near as I can tell there are some legitimate questions about the alleged attack not yet fully addressed. I for one, as have others, have been careful to say more than once I do not know all the facts and am not in a position to say yet what is true or what is false. However there is a perception that some things know so far do not add up, so those things have been called out. Perhaps the authorities and the alleged victim have held back information which can fully explain the questioned bits and will at some future time clear things up.
