Emporer 400, or Penguin 350

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Emperor 400 are the upgraded version of the Penguin 350. I love the Emperor series.

yea...emporer is ridiculas priced. penguin is the way to go, specially between those 2...
The emporer and the penguin are almost the same thing. same manufactorer, same idea for filtration, only difference is emp is rated for 5 or 10 more gallons, uses a different cartridge and costs a ton more....
I've been very happy with all my penguins, and will never spend the extra $$$ for the emps...

First: What does IMO mean?
Second: What do you believe is a good price for either of them

IMO= In my opinion

If ya shop around online, you can get the Emp 400 for $39.99 and the peng 350 for $26.99.

These type savings are found on most your aquarium needs, just gotta shop around.

the emps are better due to hte spray bars for the bio-wheels and the increased gph. i have 4 penguins and they are great except when the filter gets clogged the bio-wheels stop turning, which is why the spray bars are nice they always keep those wheels turning. worth the xtra price in my eyes but not worth 90$.

even my lfs sell the emp 400s for about 70-80...not 90.... but I got my penguin 350's from big als for 26 bucks like someone said earlier....

Thanks. Ill Start shopping around more

Plus with the Emps, you can decrease the intake flow (during feeding time, for example) and it doesn't affect the BIO-Wheels. The spray bar keeps the rotation at a steady rate.
I was perfectly happy with the Penguin 350 (and 170), but I got the opportunity to buy 2 Emperor 400s for $50.00 shipped. My tank has been CRYSTAL CLEAR since then. I admit it was a bit under-filtered before, but that just meant a little more diligence on the W/Cs.
Now with The Emps (and Purigen), W/Cs are back to only weekly and the water tests 0/0/<20 consistently and it's pretty over-stocked. :naughty:

Emperors are definitely the way to go.
