Hi everyone,
I have an empty 200Gal and am trying to figure out what to do with it. I have been thinking of a few options and would appreciate some feedback/advice etc.
The tank has a large sump, running on a powerful pump. It can create quite an intense amount of current. Even on the lowest setting I don't feel like it could work well for fish that prefer calm waters. I also like keeping my tanks a little understocked to give the fish extra room and have a bit of wiggle room in terms of water quality etc. I have no issue with large weekly water changes, which is what I have been doing, but I would like to avoid fish that need multiple changes a week. I don't want a fish that is super sensitive and that I have to constantly worry about.

Ideas: (I have never had any of these fish before so info is greatly appreciated)

1. I was thinking it might be lovely to get a group of adult discus and set up a lightly planted tank with maybe some small tetras and a pleco. The advantage of this is that I have a very good discus breeder rather close to me and therefore I would be getting them at the source = healthy and well acclimated fish used to my type of water. Plus they would be helpful in the case I run into some problems. I think they are beautiful fish but I am unsure about their personalities - I like fish who interact with the outside world. What are you guys' experience with them? Would they work in a tank with a high filtration/current?

2. I have always liked Oscars. I thought it would be a neat idea to get 1-2 young ones and see them grow. I could also add a pleco in with them maybe. What else? The positive regarding oscars is that I have heard they have lots of personality. The negative might be that I could not have such a 'pretty' tank as with the discus as they seem to be pretty destructive.

3. I really enjoy following arowana topics and find them to be beautiful fish. Would one work well in a 200Gal tank? What could go well with it? This is the option I know least about, but am willing to learn :) What makes me nervous here is that most are imported fish right? From my experience with show fish imported from Japan, I would like to go with something I could find at a local breeder. It just seems that the shipping, change of water and conditions put a large strain on the fish.

thanks a lot

If I get 6 oscars, what are the chances they all get along? I want to avoid having to set up new tanks and all that business, or having to bring some back.

For the jardini, how easy is the care? How easy is it to get a younger one and grow it appropriately? How hardy are they?

The reason to get 6 oscars is that eventually you should maybe end up with a pair or two.

Aros are pretty hardy, unless you don't manage your nitrogen cycle.

Could I mix the oscars and arowana or could that lead to aggression?

I will have to recycle this tank but it has had a very stable cycle for many years.
