i have an empty 28 gallon bowfront tank and i was thinking of stepping it up and doing a FOWLR tank. what kind of fish would i be looking at keeping? i like the look of snowflake eels, could i keep one in this size tank for it's whole life?
just looking for general suggestions on fish to keep. i've picked up a 20 pound bag of aragonite along with some pumps, salt, and hydrometer, and i'm looking into some live rock...

and eel would not be good for life, i say 55 min. you want to make sure that you have the tank setup at the right temp and salinity before you add the LR.
fish you can expect to keep are really up to what you want from the tank, a pair of clowns, damsels, some firefish, cards, blennies, gobies, tiny wrasses, there are actually quite a few fish that'll be fine in a tank that size

thanks for the reply...

i figured an eel would get too large, but someone told me i could keep one and i wanted to know for sure.

what does MFK think about a dwarf lion in a tank this size?

i'd like to do a "community" tank (if you could call it that) with a sixline wrasse, a clown of some sort, a goby or bottom dweller of some kind, and a shrimp, if a dwarf lion will get too large for 28 gallons.

are you stepping up from fresh water to salt for the first time? if so i highly recommend you don NOT get any type of lionfish dwarf or otherwise for that size tank. they are poisionous and will sting you......most of the time send you to the hospital. too little room in the tank......when you go to do maintenance there wont be much room for error. youre better off going with the smaller colorful fish you mentioned.....not all of them, but less aggressive and much safer

i say do a reef. :)

a small flowr really is that fun becuase you cant keep that many fish. you can keep alot of small cool fish in a reef.
waht kind of protein skimmer you got?
