I have an extra 29 gallon laying around and was thinking about venturing into salt. I have a spare Fluval 305 out there with it for filtration.

Would a 29 be good for a first salt tank? What would you recommend for stock?

Lots more questions to come...

No reason it cant...start doing researching...buy some buy some books...and read your pants off.

Slowly buy (or set aside cash for) the things you want. Quality is worth it in marine aquaria...at least in my mind.

i wouldnt use the canister. all u need is a hob skimmer, hob refugium and a powerhead or 2.

i have a great deal on a new small hob crp refugium. all u would need is a light. if you were interested.

if u do use the canister. take out all media and use it for a powerhead and for chemical media only.

He could stuff the cannister full of LR and also use it as the return pump for the sump.

Cannisters work fine for saltwater, they just need to be properly cleaned. Thats the underlying them in all aquaria, regardless of equipment, poor husbandry can bite you in the butt.

never thought of that

I really want to try this, but I am worried that as flow through the filter diminishes I will be risking overflows and the such. Too much variability.
