I recently got a 75 and in the process of transferring my entire stock to it, leaving my 30 empty in about 1 month. I always liked puffers and, about 6 months ago I posted about getting a potential 10 for dwarf puffers. Considering this unexpected upgrade i'm wondering what puffers could I do in the 30 and what numbers could i do assuming i have lots of rock and filtration that cycles 70 gallons per hour. Also, is it possible to breed any species of puffer in home aquariums? it might make a fun project and a pretty penny given the prices i've seen locally.

here's a pic of the 30. one of the filters is now on the 75 as are a couple of the rocks but i added about the same weight in other rocks to the 30. none of the current stock will be in there by about mid to late January.

In that size tank you could try and breed dwarf puffers, or try your hand at breeding c.irrubesscos (sp)

Try and keep it at 1m / 3f combo

any other good suggestions. I would like the breeding but an interesting single puffer would be alright as well. the LFS always has at least 2-3 puffer species in and often gets lots of unusual exotics. I've seen them with fahaka, amazon, and once congos and something labelled a dusky arrowhead. so availability shouldn't be much of an issue. Also, i'd prefer a species fine in freshwater

also would like any parameters or improvements that would make my tank better.

Arrowheads (also called Pignose) are really cool, they have dog faces.

I've always loved my Congo though, especially if you can find a red one!

Then, there are the Target species. Here is my turgidus:

^ I agree if you can find a red congo puffer there is nothing like it... especially if you find one thats actually active like my old one was...

Thanks Pufferpunk, Kevinfleming21, and Fat Homer. What is the stock number i could put in the 30 and not overstock if the only fish are the puffers and a large population of dwarf shrimp to form a hopefully self replenishing food supply. Also are there any decor guidelines i should follow. I am planning on heavily planted tank with some driftwood and a couple rocks.

I'm currently most interested in:

Congo
Dwarf
Target
Hairy

also, I would greatly appreciate any advice when it comes to breeding if it is possible.

@ Homer, I think I saw the video of you Congo inflate and die from that oversized crayfish, little late but sorry for your loss

Of those 4, all need to be kept as singletons (no tank mates at all), other than the dwarf puffers, which you could keep at 1/5g. You must do your best to sex them, keeping 1m/3f. Males with fight to the death, otherwise.

lol congos are my 2nd fav how, quick question can you keep congos together???
and ill mention avocado puffers, red eye puffers, target puffers, amazon puffer
this link helped me choose my puffer i cant tell you wich to getor wich are more interesting because their all diff and may behave diff than others, choose yours
