Empty 30... What's a Good First Puffer?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bronze can be kept together, only if grown up together as juvies. If adding a juvie to an adult, it will be dead the next day. If mixing ambush predators or target species, expect 2 dead puffers.

I'm not sure what you're calling avocado.

Dwarf red eyes are able to be kept in pairs.

I used to have a pair of palembang puffers that did breed, although i was extremely lucky to pick up a male and female, both bought on separate occasions... but wouldn't recommend keeping a pair in a 30G as it would be a bit cramped and can almost guarantee they will fight in confined spaces...

I'm now thinking (in this order) 1 congo,1 palembang, or around 5-6 dwarf. Thanks for the link and advice. Can anyone recommend tank changes i should make and what plants i should use. also would like some advice concerning the puffer teeth trimming since i have no idea how to get the snails, the shrimp i planned wew likely not hard enough, and the petstore i shop at only sells large cleaning snails that i doubt the juvi's they buy or adult dwarf puffers could ever take

A single adult palembang. will require a 40g. Very difficult species to find!

Congo will need a 3" sand bed to burrow in. Leave an open area for that & decorate the sides/back.

With crunchy meals, none of those species should have any dentistry problems.

so i won't have to worry about cultivating micro snails or using clippers on congo's or dwarfs teeth?
the sand shouldn't be too much of an issue to add if i get the congo and i definately plan on heavy planting either way. I'm going to check if they can order congo puffers for a fair price and if not i'll go with the dwarf puffers

Just be warned--not all puffers that might get along, do. I have a male DP that kills every DP I put with him.

Post pics when you do get set up!

it'll probably be a little while. i need to get the cichlids currently in the 30 in the 75 then i need to confirm the store will order and wait if i decide on congo, save up for a light and live plants and possibly the sand if i get the congo. Plus I have exams in a couple weeks so i doubt this will be fully set up until february

do you mean amazon. The store has never had any that weren't skin and bones so i doubt i'd get some from them. The others they've had were good though
