Yeah but they get what about 6'? I can't remember off hand. Again this species is known for its aggression and is definatly not suited for inexperienced monitor/tegu keepers. But they are cool I'll give you that

I am no stranger to big agressive reptiles. I have dealt with an adult male green iguana in season before. He recently passed away at 10yrs old from kindey failure, (likely from his previous owners poor care)
Actually, I don't mind a "SHOW ONLY" lizard.
One thing I was considering is replaceing the plexiglass on the front with mesh and converting it to a chameleon habitat.

Ever think about Ackie (Ridge-tailed) Monitors? They grow to around 2' including the tail, are very tame, but do all the cool things that bigger monitors do.
I don't see them readily available at shows, but you might want to do some research and find a breeder online who might be able to get you one. (Most in the US pet trade are captive bred because, similar to Bearded Dragons, they are illegal to export for Australia)

Yeah I agree if you want a nice looking, tame, active lizard that you can keep in groups then this is the one for you.(These are also on my to buy list)
I'd get a Plumed Baslisk. They are so cool looking exspecially the males. I used to have breeding trio. They love to swim so a big water pan is a must.
I also say Beardies. Check out this one from Fire and Ice breeders
