Enchelycore pardalis, Dragon Moray, who keeps them?

Want a Viper, they're a lot easier then you think, Comatose already did all the ground work.

Flying sharks are the people that collect them. Just need to have a license to import and reach the minimum order which I believe a single fang tooth is around $1600. The more you buy the cheaper they get...... IF I remember right after shipping and all said and done it was going to be around $2500 for a single eel. When Comotose did a group order the price fell to 1200-1500 but that was an order for several eels.

Seems nobody wants to touch base on how dirty eels are. When my community was running strong the back bone was a BIG skimmer. Once I changed that my community went to hell. When I say big skimmer I mean taller then me, it ran an entire pet shop. Was rated for like 2500 gallons.

Ya I am getting a skimmer rated for 400 gals to run on this 200 gal system, and being that I just want the single eel (and maybe the odd other fish that could handle its own to appease the girlfriend, way down the road though) I think that should be adequate.

I don't think I would take the dive into vipers until I see a couple more specimens in an aquarium. I mean the traditional picture of the bright red guy with all the teeth looks awesome, but other pictures show me variations of brown, dark, and also quite dopey looking heads sometimes (not that all pictures labeled viper moray are necessarily the true viper). I would get in on a group order eventually, but for now I think I will stick to the dragon.

The skimmer I put on my system was rated for 500 gallons. Guess what? Everything went to hell, cause obviously it was either over rated OR a huge skimmer really is necessary......

Enchelycore anatina is "the" eel that you could get from Flying Sharks. This was the eel that Comatose tracked down, NOT a "Viper" but the elusive "Fangtooth".

Good luck with whatever eel you go with...... I'd personally rather have Barney then another Dragon just cause everything a Dragon stands for I tend to run from..... The people that have them, well, lets just say some people think of them just like black rays - they cost a lot but that doesn't make the people that own them any cooler..... Although the world might be a better place IF it did.......ha ha

Oh cool I'll take a look into the fang tooth. Sounds like something new to me on first site.

I hear you on the skimmer. When you put that 500 gal skimmer on your system I assume there were a bunch of eels in it though right?

Ya I hear what you are saying about the popularity contest, I already experienced it first hand with the local market here, people can't just be happy with their own stuff and that others might have some cool stuff too, there's a bit of jealousy that tends to follow some of the monster fish keepers. Bit of a datnoid measuring contest if you ask me. This is the whole point of this tank, something I dreamed of for a long time, something that isn't associated with breeding, making money or selling, upgrading, making your system better, just something for my own peace and sanity to enjoy while dealing with the rays that seem to be a fair bit of work, for now anyway.

My motives started with a tesselata but again don't want to go through any future hassle. So I figured I'd go for one that can live in my 180 bow front that has been begging to be used for the last year. Since this is the first tank I've owned that is show quality without a scratch on it, I wanted to make this tank Super Mario 64 themed, green pvc, get a Mario figurine in there with a star somewhere, water level background. Anyone else remember the huge red moray in super Mario 64? Or am I the biggest nerd on here? That's why I wanted a dragon with some good red to it. My friends that are just as big Mario nerds as I am (when we get drunk on the weekends it's always either Mario party or Mario strikers or Mario tennis or something turned into a drinking game) will get a nice kick out of it too I'm sure, but this is a project just for me.
