Just saw some news that the endangered species act might get eliminated or changed.. I'm not sure what this could mean for the hobby.. what's everyone think ???

Link to this news? I can't image this act changing. If anything, more species could be added.

If the people behind this get their way I still dont expect to see the Asian arowana legalized in the US.

its sad we are still in denial about humans effect on the planet
There is a delicate balance that the human race should try and be a part of

There will be a point of no turning back when too much damage is done to that balance and all we are doing is trying to slow the process of imbalance

Maybe we are already there

and no, I am not religious or a hippy

Enough people just don't care about our environment ,from big companies on down to the guy coming out of the corner store with a plastic shopping bag containing a bittle of soda and a plastic straw.

Despite the thread title, the discussions are about how to change it so it works better. Even WaPo seems to acknowledge this. Imo that seems perfectly reasonable since a) it's not working as designed and b) it's not surprising that we know a lot more now than people knew in 1973.

Obama proposed changes to the act as well, presumably because environmentalists asked him to do so, and the GOP apparently gave him support for that as well.

Since the act is a federal law, it can't be changed or removed except by an act of Congress, whether that takes 51 or 60 senators may depend on how it's brought up, but that and a house majority is required. It will, I think, still have much less impact than the state laws that regulate, permit or ban numerous aspects of the hobby.

California, for example, is on track to limit individuals to the use of only 50 gallons of water per day in two to three years, which might dramatically limit the types of species that can be housed regardless of whether the fish is endangered or in super abundance.
