Endli & Lapradei growth rates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes 36 front to back for the larger ljs would be great.
Sorry for another question, but it's hard to internet research and easier to ask people with experience...

All 3 of my bichirs are still under 7", the ornate being my biggest. How long (estimated) until they outgrow my 18" wide tank?

Endli grow quickest that's the one that will get to 14 to 18" with in a year......usually. Depends on feeding and temp they are kept at. Not too sure on the lap. Ornates are a little slower growing after 12". Typically ljs grow pretty quick to around 14". Ujs are all over the place depending on the type, and environment. You want them to grow fast put the temp around 82 and feed daily watch nitrates and do water changes as needed probably every 3 days or so. You want them to grow a little slower put temp around 75 and feed everyother day or sometimes 2 to 3 days off. When young I'd suggest feeding at the very least everyother day no less. Once a little more mature fish don't need to eat daily with regards to temp. I keep my tank around 76 I feed everyother day weekly waterchanges of around 80% at that point nitrates are around 30-40ppm. Lately I've been skipping a scheduled feeding and going an extra day (my fish are fat). No one seems worse for it and nitrates are in the 20ppm range on waterchange day with one less feeding. I've been thinking of bumping my temp slowly up to around 78-80 and still feeding everyother day to see if it will lean them out a bit. May wait til spring to do that when it'll be a bit easier on the pocket book.

It would take a while for them to outgrow your 18inch wide tank. You have plenty of time. To put it in yrs i wouldnt be able to guess. Depends on genetics, possibly sex and im sure other things. They slow down allot for me once they hit that 12 to 14 inch range.

OK cool. A bigger tank is definitely in the future, but not in our current house.

Both of these babies have been eating fine up until recently. They're still alone in a 20g long and are fed pieces of shrimp and fish every night. They both seem to be eating less and less, so are they just growing and not needing as much food? They're definitely not skinny, and have grown in the past 3ish weeks I've had them.

The water tests just fine, so am I overreacting to their appetites not being as voracious as when I first got them?

Post pics.

If they are still earing i wouldnt worry. When you say water tests fine do you mean 0 for ammonia and nitrite ?

Yeah 0 for trite and ammonia. Nitrate is 15ppm.

I don't see the lap eating and the amount of food leftover in the morning leads me to believe he isn't eating much at all. My endli is a pig though, so are laps just generally not as big of eaters and/or slower growers?
