What are the ideal water parameters and does the grass carpet need to be real or is artificial ok?
I have a thread titled My Senegal Bichir Spawned if you would like to read what I posted about the parameters at the time. The only thing I didn't list was KH and GH because I never had a test kit until now lol. As far as plants I have had Senegal spawn in Java Moss , and a spawning mop made of Hunter Green yarn.
No I don’t think the grass carpet matters for lower jaws. I know it does for some other species

Out of curiosity, is that a genuine or artificial grass carpet? If genuine, how did you manage to come up with such brilliant looking grass in a tank?
22 free swimming fry popped out a couple of days ago. They’re massive! The largest being almost 1cm long!
It is a fake grass carpet haha. I just went to the local hardware store and bought the most expensive and realistic looking fake turf.
