endlicheri vs. delhezi??

I'm curious as to what the difference is between these two species. I recently purchased a young 4-5" delhezi from my LFS but when I look at pictures of the two I can't tell if this is actually what it was labled as. The sticky for visual identification does not have endlicheri on it that I saw, though perhaps I'm incorrect. Could anyone help me out as to what I have to count/look for etc. to narrow my new Poly down to a species level between the two?

Right now its living with a 12year old Synodontis robbiana, a juvie Mystus leucophasis, and a young brown bullhead. Upgrading the big boys to the bigger tank soon as if you didn't already figure that one out.

Sorry Mac that is NOT a Delhezi but and Endlicheri Bichir that will get up to 24"+ but will probably max out at about say 20" I hope you have got a 180gal or more for him min Tank 60X24X24

looks like an endli to me as well. See how the lower jaw protrudes past the upper jaw? Thats the best way to tell the difference. Sweet pickups for sure

Delz are upper jaw (kind of like an over bite) species and Endlis are lower jaw (kind of like an under bite). The spots and/or stripes on a Del is pretty much black while the pattern on an Endli is more of a dark brown to light brown. Here are some of mine.

Does that bichir have pop-eye or is that just how lower jawed species look?

No popeye, it is quite healthy. Last night, day five after taking it home, that little endli finally ate for me. And with enthusiasm too! I guess he really has a taste for beef heart because while he has refused shrimp pellets, massivore, and silversides, the beef heart has that little stomach nicely ballooned out.
