So Cal
How many of you MFK's are Engineers?

If so what kind?

Electromechanical. Worked on the radar hardware and digital sides of Navy weapons direction systems. Currently work in manufacturing on control loop systems, high-speed radiologically sourced process scanners, automated actuation systems, QCS interfaces, etc. Work is primarily in pulp & paper but, have also worked in chemical and light metals manufacturing.

I have a degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing. Although going through college I took a ton of Industrial classes. I work for Disneyland designing the ride mechanical systems, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Chassis, restraint, Fiberglass...etc.

I was just wondering if anyone else has calculated the minimum glass thickness needed for a fish tank... It is pretty ridiculous how thin the glass needs to be for the lengths we are using... 72"...96"... the obsurd part is the MFG's of the the aquariums making most believe that the extra thickness is needed... maybe ill just build my next one...

if anyone is wondering:

pressure at depth:

approx. 15.2 psi @ 24"
approx. 15.8 psi @ 30"

UTS of glass (soda-lime) - approx. 4790 psi... laughable!!!
