Enough filtration, water will not stay clear! HELPPP

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
While I did say that UV and diatom filters could clear the water, neither are the preferred solution as they don't address the underlying issue. An appropriately-sized UV sterilizer will clear the water but you should get one only as a final polish (e.g., your water should be pretty clear to begin with) and to keep down disease...not as a substitute for water changes/feeding in moderation.

Diatom filters are not particularly practical as they will clog quickly in a large tank.

You have too many big fish in your tank. Unless you do large daily water changes, nothing is going to help you have crystal clear water with that many fish in your tank.

Believe my tank should be able to house some of your live stock, come on bring them to me?? *grins it's a good thought for the high parameters alert, it's really fortunate your keeps are acclimatized. Have fun changing water like what I'm going to do as I post, nice question. I've learned something too, cheers

i do large water changes ( 8 gallons an hour) and my water still isn't clear although nitrates are almost at zero :D

i think i'm going to invest in some sand filters if that doesn't work i'll redo my sump and put filter socks.

2 questions
1) Is your tank near a window?
2) Have you tried an algae remover? API makes a good one that is not harmful to plants or livestock and works overnight. If the green water is an algae problem, this will fix it.
