I have a oscar and stunted rd in a 75.I dont think i have a enough filtration becuase every time i do a water change which is every 2 weeks there is alot of food and waste kicked up.Now i kno thats how it usually is but it is not ur average kick up tho.all i have for filtration is a penguin 350 filter what other filter should i use.If i had to use a canister the only canister i would use would be a magnum. But i prefer a powerfilter.what other filter should i use.

IMO, you need to turn the tank at least 10X in an hour. So... 2 Emperor 400 wouldn't do it. Maybe add a Hagen 500.

Feed less when you feed. And feed more often.

Magnum is a good choice if you like buying parts for it.

So if i got a magnum 350 pro would that be enough and would i be constantly buying parts for it.

2 Emperor 400s = 800gph

wouldn't that mean his 75gal would be cycling 10.66667 times an hour?

just do more water changes and vac the gravel more often. Pretty much doesn't matter what filters you use. poop and excess food goes to the bottom pretty much know matter what unless you have something to stir up the gravel and get it off of the bottom. This is also my guess as to how your RD got stunted. Nitrates will stunt a fish's growth. Nitrates will not be removed by filtration.

I would change the water every week on a lightly stocked cichlid tank. I would do 2 a week on your 75. Get an AC 500, god solid hob filter for under $40.

I agree. I would deffinatly add an aqua clear. On my 55 I have a penguin 350 and I can tell that isn't even enough. I am adding a fluval 304 in a couple days.

I'm a lil confused. 2-Emporer 400s = 800 gallons per hour. Thus, this would turn over an 80 gallon tank 10x. Since we are talking about a 75 it would seem that that 2 Emporer 400's are more then efficient. Did I miss something? Or did I do the math wrong here?

Anyhow because I'm not very fond of canister filters and because my tank will strictly only be for a single "Wet Pet", I only plan on using 2 Emporer 400's for my upcoming 90 gallon tank. It's close enough imo. Only if I get a 125 will I even consider using a canister. But hey, that's just me.

I just found out that u can buy bio wheels and hook them up to powerheads.Would this actually filter the water.
