btw i have the carbon pad and sponge that goes inside that filter but i didnt use it in the pictures if you have any questions or need more pictures let me know

Personally I wouldnt use that. I would just get enough LR for what you want to do and not use any mechanical filtration besides the skimmer.

what will happen if i do use it? im just curious as to why i cant but i will probably take your advice since you know more then me haha but will it harm anything or what? i love over filtration

The problem with mechanical filtration like that is they build up wastes, and cause ammonia/nitrites/nitrates etc, salt water life is very sensitive to these. That said, you can use mechanical filtration, but you need clean the pads much more often then you would with fresh.

You wouldn't have to clean the rings unless they start having waste build up on them (which shouldn't happen with the sponges), and even if they do I would say just give them a quick rince.

That will definitely get you going, heck it's better than a canister, at least you can maintain it easier. :D

Use it until you have enough live rock to handle the bio, then you can remove it. :D
