I am getting a ray soonish..... I am trying to get the tank ready now so when it is time I have a system ready to handle the large amount of waste. This is a 240 gallon tank with a 55 gallon sump. I have 2 CFS 700 canister filters. One of the canisters has the standard filter foam pads that come with the canister. The other one I am going to fill with either ceramic rings or scrubber pads. I am still researching what to do there and am open to ideas. I have a marine pure ceramic block in my sump as well. I run filter socks and turn over the tank about 4 times an hour. I also have a drip system on the tank with a overflow to a drain for daily water changes. To be honest I am not sure how many gallons a day I do, it is a very fast drip almost a steady stream. I am just looking for advice on what else I need to do to get the tank ready for a ray. I currently have a arowana, datnoid and common pleco housed in the tank. I would rather not do a fluidized bed but if it is a must I can do it, it would be a lot of work to put one in my sump and I just got the sump going last weekend. Thanks in advance.

Its 8 x 2 so I know I am limited on the rays I can get. I was thinking a motoro and getting the smaller sex. (I don't know if males or females get larger) I am still learning though and not read enough to make a decision on the type of ray. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would go for marble Motoro , reg Motoro you will eventually wish you got Marble lol. You are gonna put in the same amount of hard work and dedication so why not go with something more kinder to the eyes.

Ya once they get over 8 inch you will have to crank that drip! With that size tank you will eventually come to a point where you will sell your rays or upgrade the tank.

Thanks... Have to keep that in mind. As far as the tank upgrade.. it shouldn't be a problem. I have a fish room dedicated to this tank and have plenty of room for the upgrade in depth. Would a 6 x 3 tank be better?

No just saying in general, rays in small tank will foul water up fast.
