Not sure if this helps, but I'm keeping my adult male jag in a 45-gallon.

I know its to small for this fish, but right now I just don't have the room for a larger tank.

The fish is aprox 12 inches from the tip of his nose to his tail. Just a thin layer of fine gravel in the tank.

The tank is filtered with 2 Aqua-Clear 110's & 1 Aqua-Clear 70 power-head.

I do 50% water change/gravel vac every 2-days, on days I feed a little more I do a 50% DAILY.

I love the Aqua-Clear power filters, I use and extra foam block in each one, and its the only media I use in them.

Yea I saw him, nice! :headbang2:headbang2

BTW, it's Radley!

Merry Christmas!

im thinking about adding another filter because i heard they are sensitive to water quality

I would deffinatly...I would add a fluval 304 or 404 though. The magnum canister filters do a pretty good job in getting the particle out as well as the penguins. I have a 330 penguin and 304 fluval combo on my 55 and that really does the trick. Cleanest tank I have! On any given day you will have to look EXTREMELY hard just to find a piece of poop and I have extra fine white sand....

Sell your fish, buy some guppies. That's the only thing you're qualified to keep. A 45 is absolute torture for a 12" fish. I'm surprised it isn't dead yet. If you don't have money, don't keep fish that require it.
