i have a 55gal and got a nova extreme 48" with 2 54watt...its the freshwater version...got it for 100 bucks what do u guys think??...enough lighting to start with some plants???...lmk...looking for some input..thanks alex

well got some plants in there...looks good...going driftwood hunting on sun and thinking of doing something with some large rocks or slate, lava rock...only got a couple of plants in there now waiting for everything else so i can arrange it nice...i used eco-complete 2 bags with a thin layer of blak gravel on top...think it looks real nice with the black background...my lfs said with my light i would be able to keep a pretty large selection of plants...its that t-5 ho nova so we will see...anything i should stay away from for sure???...also since i used eco-complete i shouldnt need any ferts right??...maybe just a co2 kit???...

those lights will be perfect

well im no expert so hopefully someone will correct me if im wrong but that depends on your plants some plants get all there nutrients from the soil (i think this is mostly low light plants) then some of the higher light plants get there nutrients from the water itself so you would need to add fertz. i know that i have plant substrate and still put dry fertz in my tank and all my plants are growing like crazy so that my two cents

alright thanks for the input...ive heard some mixed things about eco-complete...so im hoping i made the right choise...i got it for 20 a bag and bought 2 so i guess only time will tell....i heard good things about schultz i believe its called...and its only like 7 bucks a bag...maybe try it out on my pacu tank and give them some live plants...going to see if i pick up some ferts later on this week anyway...

ive used eco complete several times.... works great looks great.... its a very good plant substrate

yea it does look pretty nice...i added a lil bit of black gravel to it...which isnt very noticable since the eco already has that kind of consistency to it...was very easy to plant in also...so we will see how it goes from there...
