Yeah, but your fish still produce waste, that ends up as nitrate. The only way to remove nitrate is by doing water changes. If you're only do a water change every 4 months and your water parameters are perfect...well, from what I know about fish keeping, that doesn't seem logical. Thats why I'm curious what your exact parameters are.

I would like to know also, I have two 4 1/2 inch Oscars and a 5 inch royal pleco in a 90 and I do 50% WC's every week to keep my NO3 in check.

4 months:WHOA:
Like the others say this cannot be possible surely, how old is your test kit?

Steve

Please do a water changes at least once a week if not more , not every 4 months .

+ please buying a bigger tank ( 125Gal + ) .

im not lying guys no bull****
my friend has a 75 gal with a 2236 and hasent cleaned it in a year with 2 12'' pacus 4 demps 1 parrot 1 severom and his params are perfect the dempseys always have babies he tests his tank twice a month all we feed our fish is raw shrimp could that be y but a apperciate the advice

Not cleaning the canister out is one thing, not changing the water is another.

Please realize that fish still make waste. Imagine if your toilet was 75 gallons, you ate shrimp every day, crapped every day, and never flushed. Would you consider that water to be perfect?

Your water might be clear, but it could still be contaminated. If you test your water, you should be able to rattle off your parameters.

Also, random side note, feeding only raw shrimp isn't the best. Fish strive from a varied diet.

I'm not trying to be a prick here, just looking out for your fish and would really hate to see your tank crash. I think practically everyone on this website would agree with me when I say its next to impossible to have perfect parameters while only doing a water change every 4 months.

Deffently dont just feed your fish just on one type of food . Only one type of food wont be giving your fish the best nutrition and vitiums plus wont be keeping your fish healthy .

Raw Shimp along with a mixed hand full of pellets and flaked foods would be better for your fish . Also feeding your fish Bloodworm and other frozen/ dried Worms Ect would be great for your fish too . But not just Raw Shrimp !

Always do a Water change once if not twice a week aswel as cleaning you Filters out every 2 - 3 months at a time too will keep your fish very healthy and take the risk away of getting little if not any illness and encourage growth . :)
