My research is still in it's early phases, but my theory is that people who are too lazy to type "real" or "complete" words are too lazy to do water changes......... :liar:

My question is...if you set up the tank 3 months ago, how could you not do a water change in 4 months...technically the tank has been set up for a month less than your last water change on it.

Ya know, to be honest, I don't really care if you're lying or telling the truth. The fish look healthy, so umm, I guess keep up the good? work.

It can, however I don't know how effective it is in a canister. I have some laying around so maybe I'll put some in the FX5 on my 180 and see if I get the same results in 3 months.

Edit:

These macropores are ideally sized for the support of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Matrix™, unlike other forms of biomedia, to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter.

I found this part interesting:

Matrix™ may be placed in any kind of filter, and is particularly effective in a canister filter.

yep and Fluval says the FX5 is rated for a 400 gallon tank...lol... these companies claim more then reality.

anyways, i use Matrix in 2 AC 110s on my 56 gallon gulper catfish tank.. nitrate is still present in the tank and i do 50%WCs/week.. after 4 months of 0 WCs... I..II.. well u know the rest...;)

my tap water has 0 nitrate (for the record)

I've used matrix in a denitrator and nitrates went to zero in 5 days. Different setup but none the less. I'm keeping an open mind since the OP is using it and says he has 10ppm. You're also not using it in a canister, most of the negative reviews I've seen for matrix and it's ability to remove nitrates were used in sumps. I'm going to do an experiment and see how it goes.

hello everyone,, i'm not going to comment on whether someone is bull****ting or not but I can concur on one aspect so far.. i had my tank for 6 months, hardly any water changes... maybe 1 or two... all was great in a 75 gallon with 2 jacks and 2 large albino pleco's.. have enough filtration in there for about 400 gallons (rene xp3, 2215 eheim and a Aquaclear 50)... All of a sudden recently... boom.. my fish stopped eating, won't come near me anymore for food and blah blah...... I being a newbie posted many questions in other forums and well it came down to me not making good water changes.. no prime to kill chlorine and no testing.. well i pulled out the test kit and boom.. my nitrates were well over 160 ppm.... beyond the scale.. 2 50% water changes, no difference. Cleaned the filters last night using tank water, more prime and let's see what happens tonight with my testing... added some hornwort to......
soooo to sum it up to the owner of the original post.... YOU might be fine NOW... but look out as i'm learning.... my fish have not eaten in about 10 days... so i'm not sure if they are going to make it if i don't get this under control.....
my 2 cents worth...
cheers!!!!
