the thiaminase may dissuade a bunch of fish keepers from taking up your offer for free meat.
I have never heard of this untill recently but it definately has me wanting to speed up the process of getting my fish off of them.

There's a discussion going on about thiaminase here for those who are not aware of it yet.
HOLE IN THE HEAD + THIAMINASE - What you need to know!!!!!!

Goldfish has been used as bait in some places but they are also banned in others for the reason stated in first post just how invasive they can get (minus the rather delicate fancy ones that would not thrive well in stiffly cold areas).

Good reading, thanks for providing us with that link Lupin.

You both raise great concerns, and that discussion's brought up a lot of good points, now if the fish were used as human food what would be the most efficient way of feeding a crowd?

BBq? ^^

Shore lunch and and army of skillets/deep fryers.

The guts/scraps of the cleaned fish could be used as bait to catch more fish minimizing the expense of the fishers. The population may never be eliminated this way but if turned into a yearly event it could keep it in check. Have a challenge for the cooks for best recipe. Largest catch. Most caught....

Maybe even get fishing stores/guides in the area involved and offer a value for your catch kind of deal where so many certified catches of goldfish go towards a credit towards goods and services. Or challenge the fishery businesses as a professional challenge - the reward being advertising for a year in a local media source....hmm....

THAN a fish fry xP
