My son's house gecko escaped yesterday while I was cleaning the enclosure! I was moving it into a smaller container so I could put in new substrate and a new water fall when my son and his friends came bounding in and startled the little gecko.

We tried to corral the gecko, but it ran under the dishwasher and I haven't seen it since.

Any tips on how to lure this gecko out of hiding? I'm worried the cat will find it before I do.

Check anywhere warm and dry. Look under the fridge, by hot water heater, etc.

Another thing you could try doing is setting up a heat lamp, pointed at the ground, and keep checking on it.

It is a house gecko. It will be fine just living in the house.

I have two cats and they have yet to catch one. I purposely let some go in my house and basement to help with escaped crickets. I worried for a little while until I started seeing babies. They must be doing ok then :-)

I think my husband would have a problem with that :) He would flip out if he was brushing his teeth and this gecko scurried across the mirror, or if it just happened to run across the TV some night!

Plus, my son really misses "Jengo Fett". He was crying last night because he is so worried about it.

I've been checking the windows and the bathroom all day. When I kept anoles and they got out they would gravitate to those places, maybe the gecko will do the same.

rmorse: I was thinking of doing that, placing the lamp near the hole the gecko ran into. Can't hurt to try, I guess.

Well..with the gecko out you will likely have less insects. Its also going to hide when it sees you, so you would probably never see it anyways.

Check the walls, picture frames etc. I know my parents had a few living behind things hanging on the walls when they lived in florida. When i worked at a pet store, even up here in CT there was an establishment of them in the store. It was a petco too, so it wasn't kept very warm and there were still babies everywhere.

Anyways good luck, they are hard to catch as you probably know. But even if you don't catch it its still going do fine.

my house walls on the outside are full of house geckos at night, and they occasionally get in, and usually find them near windows, possibly due to the heat during the day

they are so hard to catch but check those warm places at night with a flashlight so you can sneak up on it while it is sleeping and the light will not startle it

If I remember correctly your wife is afraid of Geckos ?.

I sealed my sliding glass doors as best as you possibly can because I do use them . That's my wife biggest fear (Geckos).

During tiny baby Gecko season a few still get in now and than I think they just come in when we go in and out through front door.
