I have an escapee! I went to the store today and when I came back I discovered that one of my crayfish has escaped! I cant find it anywhere! How long can they last out of water?

Ok, I have a 2600 square foot home. I had 6 crayfish, all but 1 got away. This crayfish, overnight, went from a tank that was 5 feet off the ground across the room down through the kitchen, down a hall, turned a corner went down another hall way and was found by my dog in my sons bedroom heading for his bed. I tossed him back in the tank and he was fine. They can apparently live along time out of water, 3 of the crayfish made this similar journey. Find it fast though, because for some reason, crayfish make the most horrible stench when they die. I mean really really bad, it is incredible. It will smell like a dead body in your house.
My friend has a fish market (funny thing is we love keeping fish in our pond and tanks) and when he used to get crawfish from louisiana (Katrina did something to his supplier) they would live for a week or so in the cooler where they stayed moist from the humidty/frost when people walked in. plus they were in a burlap sack that stayed fairly wet.
