Escondido or not?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks like a Carpintis to me. It's an awesome looking fish no mater what it is and you should be proud to have in your tank.

How big have your females gotten? I have her in a 48" x 14" x 20" tank and was expecting to maybe have to upgrade eventually or should she be ok in a tank of this size? She is currently in with 2 Geophagus tapajos and a featherfin catfish.

I had a female that hit 8".

I have recently bought one of these which was simply labelled Texas Cichlid at the shop and after doing some research believe that mine is most likely an escondido am I right in thinking this? Also it is about 4 inches can any one tell the gender by this picture? ThanksView attachment 958911

I think it's a nice 100% H Carpinti .. I woundt say to myself it's an Escondido Carpinti to be specific.

This is my old f1 Escondido. I took him to the LFS.. So U can't say you can't get pure breeds at the lfs either..

Madd got him from Jrapps. Madd took him to the lfs, he told me, then I went to the store and picked him up. Then I got tired of him and took him to the lfs. Then someone bought him at the store. The end

Have you ever fed live crickets to fish? My Wife has a bearded dragon and on a few occasions recently I have fed them to my carpintis and it has seemed to enjoy them and also some compost worms. I don't want to introduce parasites to my tanks, do you think this is safe to be doing?
