One of the objectives of fishkeeping is to replicate conditions in nature as far as possible.
Not all people. Where is that written did I miss that in Aquaria 101?

dominicolas-well said.

Thanks.

To me, number one concern is keeping my fish safe, healthy, and happy. And you don't need to feed injured fish to other fish to create natural conditions . It's clear to me that in a natural environment, an esco would have enough room to get away when another fish starts to kick it's a**.

Now I can understand agression in a tank, but in my several years of keeping fish, including South/ Central American cichlids, and North American Natives (Sunfish and bass), I have NEVER had a fish get beaten up to the point where it died or even came close. I've had fish eaten by bass and by catfish, but these situations were 'swallowed whole' events.

It seems to me like if you are an attentive and dilligent fish keeper, you really shouldn't have fish being beat to death, and if you are a devoted fishkeeper, you will do everything possible to keep a fish alive. I had a fish jump out of a tank once. I have no idea how long it was out of the water and it seemed dead. I put it back in the tank anyway and threw together a rehab bucket even though the fish was already stiff (a central stoneroller fyi). Anyway, after five minutes the fish's gils moved. It took another week or so of care to get it swimming again, and it never really fully recovered, as still swims a little slower than his buddies today, but the important part is that he is swimming today.

The point of this rambling is that you really don't know when a fish is going to make it, but it's our responsibility to give it all we've got.

Shamrock, my Escondido was in a separate 90 from my piranha,..they were never housed together,..there was no way he would have survived without fins or scales,..they all,-Trimac, Xiloaensis, Lyonsi & Escondido lived together without issue for awhile,..no idea why they or it or who attacked the Escondido,.
I payed alot of $ for that fish and it got mauled,..so i decided to make use of it and feed my Piranha which will last him for a few days,..I'd be amazed if i'm the only one on MFK who has done or would do this,..

And, i did my research, asked Q's, etc,..all these fish are the same size and temperment,..i didn't expect to wake up to this,..
Still don't know what i did wrong,..any help from the experts appreciated,..if you have nothing helpful to add to this thread,..let it be,..:) i can't believe some of these posts,..how old are we?

but sometimes research does not take into account the aberant personality of certain fish who dont fit the profile i had one fish that was suppose to be able to hold its own in a 55g temp home for a few days and when i got back the next morning the alpha zebra in the tank had managed to destroy this christyi who was easily twice his size and had managed to mess up the other two but i was able to save the two remaining ones

but i would also agree that things happen and not that i plan it but in the world of fish keeping fish eat fish

but on the same note sorry to hear about your loss what does the 3 letter stand for with the fish that ate the victim

Red Belly Piranha,..

I've seen some pretty ridiculous recoveries, as I assume alot of us experienced people at this site have. I'm trying to get the piont through your head that fish can survive tough conditions if you take time to treat them right.

This is the second time you said this. Is the money all you care about and if so, why not try to help the fish recover. You just seem lazy at this point.

I think i should've posted the picture so you get it through your head,..

Right now, I have cons, texas, and devils, so yes, I have experience with these fish. In the aspects were talking about, these fish are essentially the same as yours, especially the Texas.

You've never had any of the fish i have, so your making assumptions. You can't make generalizations on behaviors because you have fish from the same region,..

None of this helps anyway,..
