Escondido spawn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the comments. A friend told me the male is probably carpintis 'Laguna Chaire, so good catch on the I.D. External identifiers like pattern and color seem so weak, but I guess that is all we have when we haven't netted them out of the river, and I do not know the full history of either fish.

Question, knowing the above information, would you keep the fry? ACA guidelines would probably have me using them as feeders. But, I am going to grow them out if the spawn develops.

Its the same species, with minor variations that most people wouldn't even notice. If you keep them, I'd just say they are carpintis fry.

Personally, I would feed the fry. Three reasons. One, technically they are hybrids, which the deffination does include same species-differant races. Two, many species are being split up with DNA studies. Look at convicts, sevs, Pelvicachromis species, ect. Though they are considered the same species now, it might change once someone looks at the texas genus. Third, it's seems texas are sadly headed the red devil/midas route.
