ok so today i was fishing in some lake. and i started netting near a drain pipe. i was catching like 10 baby sunfish...under an inch. would any of you or have you caught these to put in your piranha tanks? its easy, plentyful, and free and they are considered pests. anyway i just wanna know other peoples opinions. thanks guys

good question, i was wondering if you could feed lake caught fish too

i think that they have to be small....or to big. i just felt very wrong doing it. like i was killing a whole population lol

i catch bluegill, shiners, and perch and freeze them and feed them to my turtles and piranha. i have a bag with like 20 fish right now. i just thaw out what i need. i cut appropriate sizes for the p. free food is always good!!!!!!

sunfish are pretty plentiful in lakes, so i wouldn't worry too much about killing off the population by catching a few, but i would worry about the high risk of introducing parasites and/or disease to your tank

your local Fish and Game or Fish and Wildlife may have Rule prohibiting collectiong of sunfish or game fish under a certain size. i might check there website before doing anything shady.

your probably fine but you can never be to safe, under the ethical debate that's up to yourself. IMO i wouldn't -do to parasites or diseases carried by these sunfish that could harm your p's. edit..- (beat to by poster above)

also sunfish have VERY sharp spines on there dorsal fins, LMB can get by that, but small p's could also be hurt by that.

i would not feed to any of my fish, just priority reason number one is parasites... you introduce everything to your fish,..and into your aquarium...

how the heck can you tell if they got parasites? another thing i dont get is if they have parasites...then wouldnt every fish in every lake be dead or something wrong with them?

They are healthy sunfish...they are immune to the diseases in the wild...but they carry the disease or parasite host until the time is right for it to attack one that has no immunity to disease... and everything else they would introduce...if the opportunity presents itself. And it works in reverse too...thats why they don't want you to add fish from captivity into the wild... a whole different set of diseases in captive fish.. and the wild ones would have no immunity..
