Fish with bodies so distorted and fins so cumbersome that they can barely swim...internal organs shoehorned into too-small body cavities...fancy goldfish with bubble eyes or "celestial" eyes or "pompoms" so pronounced they can't see where they are going...red parrots that can hardly close their mouths...ever-weirder hybrids created just for gits and shiggles...

Nah...what could possibly be wrong with that? By all means, carry on.
Never thought about the parrots or fancy goldfish you just opened my eyes so much more to this topic

I agree with D dogofwar about the Goldfish but honestly in the 70's and 80's I personally never seen hybrid or any balloon Molly, longfin Black skirt Tetra, or Tutti Fruity Frogs just to name a few It was a purist dream. When Cichlids were sold they were mostly wc and imported.

Personally, with so many beautiful, well proportioned and "normal" looking fish to choose from in the hobby I don't see the attraction of these messed around with mutants. The humble goldfish has been mentioned. This must be the most abused fish on the planet talking from a how much can we change it perspective. Some are grotesque.

But it's like anything else, if there is a demand for this type of stuff, then there will always be a supply.

I’ve always thought that it was normal for some fish to grow a Nuchal hump

Nuchal hump is normal looking in male cichlids IMO I've seen them and it dont bother me but dang the KOKs now on the FH nowadays its extreme even if it's the same thing. KOK on those FHs to me is in a category of their own lol.

Lol I’m being serious there’s a place I go to in Kentucky called world of pets I’m actually going there tomorrow to get a pacu i definitely recommend going there some of their fish have ich when they first come in but it goes away extremely fast and honestly they have an absolutely amazing selection of fish but anyways they always have several big flowerhorns and I’ve seen them there for 400$ just cause the kok size I don’t know where they get them from but I’ve seen a kok almost 2x the size of the fish it’s just stupid crazy
