So I've been growing out some amphs and various cichlids in a 320, some fighting but nothing major. Well the festae in the tank have grown at a fraction of the pace as their tankmates and I woke up to this guy today with his caudal fin bitten off and rear mangled. He seems fine though, acting completely normal. I would assume he's not going to make it though? I don't won't to prolong suffering if it's pointless. What are your opinions?

It only seems it has lost its caudal fin and part of the anal/dorsal fins. Fins grow back so the fish should be fine unless infection sets in. It may or may not grow back perfectly but as far as the fish being put down to alleviate suffering I don't think that's necessary.

He'll be fine as long as he doesn't keep getting beat on.

Thanks, funny thing is no one ever bothers him that I've seen, probably because he isn't seen as a threat because everyone outgrew him weeks ago. I don't care if he looks perfect or not, as long as it grows back enough for him to live somewhat normal. Thanks for the input all.

he be fine, just keep him safe.

Add salt if you haven't already, should be fine at that age!-) separate the festae or this will happen again.

agreed. I always keep 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons in my water, and have for years. I don't just use it for a salt-bath.....it's always in there and I almost never have infections or disease unless I get a fish that is already carrying something that I can't see at the time.

You can increase the speed of healing by using certain veggies, and high-protein foods as well as longer dark periods - the living body repairs cells at almost 3x faster (or maybe more ) when it is sleeping as a result of all the body's energy being concentrated on the only really "active" systems.

Lol well he isn't doing it to himself. id add more plants to ause several breaks of sight. Maybe they won't chase him as long.
I had this guy for a couple years before he died. He struggled to swim a bit but he was a real jerk.
