Euthanize this fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ehh ehh , lol I didn't think he did it himself. I meant I think someone was trying to eat him, not bully him. I have an oscar in with them who grew so much faster he might be able to actually consume the festae now. Good looking fish there though. I guess I'll just let him be and see how it goes. Unfortunately I don't have a spare tank atm, I could always throw him in my sump (75 gal), but that might stress him out.

I've thrown bigger fish than that in my 40 gallon sump to isolate them. Usually one of my males who would beat his mate up after spawning. Should be fine in there. Its just temporary and he'll get some size in there as well being alone.

Thanks what I'll do later today then. Thanks

I wouldn't put that fish to sleep. I would keep him in a small hospital tank with super clean water and feed the heck out of him. He will heal up ok. :)

If he fit in someone's mouth he'd be dead. I had tanks where the bullying happens at night.
I bet he's being chased. You do need to put him somewhere we he can heal though. That's only gonna get worse.

He is now in the sump. Not a ton of space, but plenty for a small fish. The tank is on a 40gal/day drip, plus I've been doing 50% water changes 1 or 2x a week to help accelerate growth and keep the water clean. Its crazy some of the fish that were his size 7-8 weeks ago are literally 10x his mass. The 3 festae all have serious barely grown. They eat every time I feed, but some fish like the trimac, Oscar, and chancho would probably keep eating until they exploded and end up getting more food. Its definitely possible just bullying at night only. I do have a cat in there and he'd likely be more active at night.

As a general rule, if a fish is acting perfectly normal and has good color, there's no need to euthanize them.

I don't see any need to euthanize him. The fins will grow back. Try a divider or something small for right now to house him in.

Sump all three festae.
