Ever buy a fish from asian market to put in ur tank as a pet?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Isnt that how snakeheads got introduced to native waters on the east coast?

I've never done it by the way, but doesnt seem much different than buying from the LFS. just check what the law says

IF U'VE GOT A HOSPITAL TANK IT SHOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM

I wouldn't dare buy a fish from our asian market and throw it into one of my main tank hell no but if u quartentined the fish for a few weeks and made sure it was healthy and eating good I don't see y it would be a problem

I had a barramundi from a fish market. Great fish...

ive been thinking about this for awhile

the only fish place im aware of is seafood city on third avenue

How about Ranch 99 in Mira Mesa? It would be an interesting idea. They can sell the fish to you live w/o bashing its brain in.

Do it a weekday, b/c it's quite crowded on a weekend. Keep bucket of water in car. No problem.

been hearing this a bunch, anyone know of any in IL? preferably peoria area?

In Niles, they have a HomeDepot sized Asian market that has a huge fish section. They have tanks full of tilapia, freshwater eel, and catfish. It's called "H-Mart", located at Oakton and Waukegan.

You should be able to find quite a few in your major cities international district (read: China Town)

Anybody know of any in the Tampa Bay area?

i once found parachanna obscura at a market bought two one survived for nearly a year, would do it again as long as no other fish were involved cos of parasites

I use to buy their freshwater eel, shrimps, frogs, and those large turtles and kept them as pets when back in my teens. Of course they never lived. The shrimps I can't tell if they're freshwater or saltwater since I had both types of aquariums.

I saw some snakeheads before the ban and was tempted to buy it but didn't have the funds.

In NYC Chinatown, just have your own transportation ready for the fish and they'll be more than happy to put it in your bucket. People ask for live fish cause they want to it fresher or whatever for their long ride home.
